Program Schedule, February 2011

January 30

  • Out of Silence” (session one). A documentary film on gay bigotry and bullying will be shown that demonstrates how simple dialogue in one small town resulted in its complete transformation.  A discussion will follow the film and continue during our next meeting.

February 6

  • “Out of the Silence” (session two). This second session dealing with gay and lesbian issues  will focus on problems in Lincoln County, particularly as they relate to children.  Facilitators and participants will discuss the active part of churches and other local groups in preventing bullying and discrimination in this area.

February 13

  • “The wisdom of Pacific Rim cultures through myths, music, and ocean images” — Mary Goff.  Water covers about 70% of the earth’s surface.  It has had a profound influence on our climate, marine resources, science, arts and even life’s origins.  Explore how interactive perspectives can help to build a model for our future.

February 20

  • “The Viking’s mark on American shores” — Dr. John Chapman, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Oregon State University, Newport.  Old and new science methods reveal marine species introductions to North America with the Viking explorers 1000 years ago.
